Dr. Kass' research focus is on glaucoma and related conditions. New surgical techniques, new diagnostic tests and new medications for glaucoma are tested.

Dr. Kass is principal investigator of the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study. OHTS is a multicenter clinical trial that is being conducted in 22 clinical centers in the United States. OHTS is designed to determine whether early medical treatment of elevated intraocular pressure delays or prevents the onset of glaucomatous damage. This trial also will provide information about risk factors for glaucoma in a national cohort. New methods for detecting early damage of glaucoma are being evaluated, including blue on yellow perimetry and scanning laser ophthalmoscopy of the optic disc.
