HEED AWARD

Each year, a former Heed Fellow is selected to receive the prestigious Heed Award. The presentation of the award is made at the annual alumni luncheon of the Society of Heed Fellows, which is held during the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Any former Heed Fellow who has not previously received the Heed Award is a potential candidate. A five-member committee composed of previous recipients of the Heed Award selects the awardee, and all Heed Fellows may nominate a candidate.

The following criteria are the basis for nominating and selecting the candidate:

• Evidence of major contributions to ophthalmology as an educator, clinician, and/or investigator.
• Outstanding original discoveries or investigations, which have produced major advancements in the field of ophthalmology.
• Long-term evidence of extraordinary and distinguished leadership service on behalf of ophthalmology.
